Meet Pastor Bob

Pastor Bob Rasmus (photo used with permission from Midwest Portraits)Pastor Robert Rasmus is the Senior Pastor at St. Matthew.  He began his ministry here in January of 2001 after serving a congregation in Orange, TX.  He grew up in North Dakota where his mother still lives.  While living there, he tried lutefisk on several occasions, but has suffered only mild post-traumatic stress as a result.

Pastor Rasmus graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1996 and was ordained into the ministry of word and sacrament on July 21, 1996.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982.  Prior to entering the ministry he served as a medic in the U.S. Army, was the news director of a radio station, served as a congressional press secretary in Washington D.C., and worked as a politics and public affairs reporter with a state radio network in Iowa.  Pastor Rasmus was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served as a Reserve chaplain until separating service as a Captain in 2002.  In his early days, he also enjoyed a brief stint as a blackjack dealer.

He was married to Ann Schneider, whom he met at the seminary, in 1996.  They have one daughter, Sophie Grace, who is, by all accounts, the most beautiful child ever born.
